CTM Newsletter No 4
July 2009
Dear Colleague,
Some news of CTM progress and developments over recent months:
Directors
Bill Prevette has joined the board, and brings extensive experience of living and working in Eastern Europe, as well as recent research that drew from a Child Theology perspective.
CTM Publications
Two more consultation reports have been published by CTM. They are Nepal (consultation held in July 2007) and South Asia (consultation held in India in November 2008).
Toddling to the Kingdom, edited by John Collier, was published recently. It brings together the highlights from the first eight consultation reports in a way which allows some of the emerging themes to be seen more clearly. Copies of these and all other CTM publications may be easily obtained through our website: www.childtheology.org
Consultations
There are various encouraging developments and conversations continuing since consultations in India and Australia.
The next consultation planned will be held in Helsinki in April 2010. This will be the fifteenth thus far.
London Seminar March 2009
A day seminar on Child Theology was held in London earlier this year attended by people from around the UK, and one from Prague.
Website
We are still in the process of updating and improving this CTM resource. Contributions and contributors are welcomed. It is now possible to order publications online, and we encourage those who are part of the growing network worldwide to extend their collection of written CT materials.
Copies of consultation documents that have sold out are being made available in downloadable format.
Related Publications
There are various signs that the idea of Child Theology is beginning to take root. For example, in the Prologue to the book, Through the Eyes of a Child: New insights in theology from a child’s perspective, Peter Privett writes:
“Child theology is the challenge of obeying the command of Jesus to place the child in the centre, to see what this does to our theology, our missiology, our pastoralia and so on.” (page xix)
The book was published in 2009 by Church House Publishing, London.
David Sims, a former trustee of CTM has just published a book based on his PhD, The Child in American Evangelicalism and the Problem of Affluence, published by Pickwick, Eugene, Oregon. In it he makes clear his debt to CTM in general, and Haddon Willmer, in particular.
New Models of Doing Theology
Child Theology brings potentially new insights into the heart of theology, and these challenge long cherished traditions in every part of the theological process. For this reason CTM is seeking to develop long term strategies for change based on a reading of church history, and the way other movements have gone about influencing theological reflection, training and practice.
An International Process
We continue to invite followers of Jesus Christ worldwide to participate in the work and development of this infant movement. Please feel free to contact others through the website.
